New Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty
Key Messages and Q&A
Key Messages
- Chrysler is the first and only OEM to offer a 'best-in-industry' Lifetime Powertrain Warranty - providing worry-free ownership.
- At the expiration of a 3-year/36,000 mile Basic Limited Warranty, Chrysler will extend an unprecedented Lifetime Powertrain Warranty to its customers in the U.S. on most new 2006 MY, 2007 MY, and 2008 MY Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles purchased on or after (July 26,2007) in the United States.
- The Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty covers the cost of all parts and labor needed to repair covered powertrain components - engine, transmission and drive system.
- The Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty extends to original purchaser - retail or lessee.
Questions & Answers
- Q1: What types of sales qualify for this warranty, type 1 and type L only?
- A1: The warranty will be assigned to the vehicle, if applicable, and will not be dependent upon the type of sale reported on a NVDR submission.
- Q2: Do fleet vehicles qualify?
- A2: Only applicable commercial fleet vehicles qualify. Rental vehicles and government sales vehicles are excluded.
- Q3: Do demos and service loaners qualify for the warranty to the first retail purchaser?
- A3: Demos qualify, regardless of in-service date. Service loaners do not qualify. Service loaners are reported as a Type sale 1 per the program rules.
- Q4: What are we expected to do at the five-year inspection? Will we be paid for the inspection?
- A4: Details of the inspection content will be clarified by our engineering team at a later date. The inspection work will be covered by the warranty claim.
- Q5: How far back will Service Contracts accept these new Lifetime Powertrain service contracts?
- A5: Eligible 2006 MY, 2007 MY & 2008 MY vehicles (regardless of when they were sold) will be eligible for the Lifetime Powertrain plans.
- Q6: What vehicles are restricted from Service Contracts' new Lifetime Powertrain Wrap Plans?
- A6: The same as the warranty. Vehicles not covered include those used as/for/by police, taxis, limousines, postal delivery, ambulances, rental or government. Also excluded are SRT models which are covered by our 3-year/36,000-mile Basic Limited Warranty; and our diesel-engine mile engine vehicles (Dodge Ram Cab/Chassis and Dodge Sprinter) which are covered by a 5-year/100,000 mile engine warranty - our diesel equipped Jeep vehicles have a 3 year/36,000 mile engine warranty. Vehicles must have warranty code '799' to be eligible for these wrap plans. You can find details regarding new service contract offers in a separate communication from CSC which was issued on July 26.
- Q7: Are the Lifetime Powertrain wrap plans transferable?
- A7: No. However, there are two states that require transferability: New York and Florida. We will transfer the plans in these states to the second owner only. New York has a mandated $50 fee to transfer. We can not launch our powertrain plans in Florida until plans go through a 30-60 day review. Florida is highly restrictive. A 7/70 powertrain plan is available in Florida which is similar to our new Lifetime Powertrain Warranty.
- Q8: Will the Lifetime Powertrain wrap plans offer the additional benefits to first day rental, alternate transportation, roadside assistance and towing and trip interruption?
- A8: Yes, but these features drop off at 7 years or 100,000 miles (only the mechanical coverage will continue for a lifetime).
- Q9: What will the Service Contract plan provisions state as the "term" for these plans?
- A9: Initially, the provisions will use 12/31/9999 as the end term of the plan. This will eventually be replaced with the word Lifetime - for the initial purchaser.
- Q10: What does "lifetime" mean?
- A10: Lifetime is lifetime.
